ATTORNEY PROFILE:
M. Gregory McCollum
earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1985. After serving as a judicial law clerk for the circuit court Mr. McCollum soon joined the public defender's office, where he worked for less than a year before being hired by the district attorney as a felony trial prosecutor. He served as an assistant district attorney for five years prosecuting serious felony cases in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, trying cases in Horry and Georgetown Counties. In 1993 Mr. McCollum was selected to serve as the prosecuting attorney for the newly formed Centralized Horry County DUI Court. At that time he was assigned a backlog of 600 pending DUI cases for prosecution. In 1995 Mr. McCollum left the DUI Court to concentrate his practice on criminal defense. Since that time he has successfully defended individuals accused of serious felonies such as narcotics trafficking, murder, assault among many other offenses. His practice involves defending cases in state court, federal court, magistrate court as well as municipal court. Mr. McCollum has a complete criminal defense and traffic court practice where he defends people charged with a crime in summary court such as driving under the influence, reckless driving and other traffic court infractions in addition to serious felony cases in state and federal court.
Mr. McCollum is an active member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Horry County Bar Association, the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where he previously served on the board of directors. Additionally he is a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Horry County Public Defender Corporation and served for three years as the Chairman of the Horry County Democratic Party. Presently Mr. McCollum is a member of the Fifteenth Circuit Public Defender Selection Panel and is a member of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
