Greg McCollum established his criminal defense practice in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1993. He began practicing criminal law in the Myrtle Beach area in 1988, first as a public defender and then as a prosecutor, before opening his own criminal defense practice. Prior to private practice, he served over five years as a felony court prosecutor in Horry and Georgetown counties, successfully trying hundreds of cases including murder, sexual assault, robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and every type of DUI offense.
In 1994, Greg was selected as the first prosecutor for the newly formed centralized DUI Jury Court in Horry County, where he served as the prosecuting attorney for every highway patrol DUI case in the greater Myrtle Beach area. As both a prosecutor and defense attorney, Greg has gone to trial in over 200 cases, including more than 100 DUI trials. In 2014, he founded the Complete Legal Defense Team to create a better way to help good people who are arrested or investigated by police.
Greg graduated from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He grew up in Easley, South Carolina and lived in New York City for three years where he worked for Columbia Pictures before entering law.
Community involvement: Greg serves on the Public Defender Selection Committee. He is a former board member of the Grand Strand YMCA, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Council, Children’s Museum of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is a former member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and a past chairman of the Horry County Democratic Party. He coached both the Myrtle Beach High School mock trial team and Saint Andrew Catholic School mock trial team, as well as his daughter’s girls soccer teams. He is a parishioner of Saint Andrew Catholic Church and lives in Myrtle Beach with his two children.
