Greg McCollum of the Complete Legal Defense Team explains what to do if you or a loved one are arrested at night, on a weekend or holiday, or unexpectedly, and how his firm’s after hours process works before bond court begins.

How to Get Help If You’re Arrested at Night or on a Weekend
That’s usually when people get arrested. Most people get arrested at night, certainly after business hours. People get arrested on weekends and holidays. So you can call the Complete Legal Defense Team. The firm has an answering service. You tell them it’s an emergency and then they get details from you and then you call the firm. I don’t care if it’s 3:00 in the morning, just call us.
The answering service will take the call. The firm will get the message. Somebody should call you back in the morning, maybe 7:30, something like that. And then the firm will have enough time to talk to you and get going on the case before bond court starts that morning. If we need to have a lawyer there to help you, we can do that, too.
What To Do If You’re Suddenly Arrested
I coined that term arrest emergency, because when people are being arrested, they contact the firm’s office. Sometimes it’s in the middle of the day, sometimes it’s a situation where it happens at night or on weekends. But most of the Complete Legal Defense Team’s clients have never been arrested before.
And so when the police show up, they don’t know they’re coming. And so all of a sudden they’re thrown into chaos and panic, and everything’s just turned upside down. They don’t know what’s happening. They literally are just going through it moment by moment. And the firm can explain to them what is happening and what the firm can do.
How a Lawyer Can Help After Hours or on Weekends Explained
For people that get arrested a lot, if the police come and arrest them and handcuff them, they don’t panic that much because they know exactly what’s going to happen. And the people that get arrested all the time, they even know the people at the jail and the judges.
The firm’s clients have never been arrested before, so they’re panicking. There’s a complete loss of control. They don’t know what’s going to happen in the next five minutes. So just the Complete Legal Defense Team explaining some of that to them, this is what’s going to happen, this is the next thing that’s going to happen, and then that you’ll be better and better.
Greg McCollum brings roughly 30 years of experience and a background as a former prosecutor to every case he handles, giving him insight into how law enforcement and the courts approach an arrest from the other side. That perspective can help guide clients through the disorientation of an unexpected arrest, from the first phone call through bond court.
