Sometimes people want to know: if ICE shows up and starts asking questions, should the person answer the questions? ICE is the Immigration Criminal Enforcement Division of the federal government, which investigates whether people are here illegally or not. Many people have entered the country illegally, or people have entered the country legally and overstayed their visas. Many of these people have jobs. Many companies have employed people whose legal status could be in question. If you are a person who’s working, and you have some issues regarding your immigration status, it’s probably a good idea to get some legal advice before you give some long interview to an ICE agent. At the same time, if you own a company, and your company employs people who may have come here on different types of visas (work visas, student visas) it’s probably a good idea to get some legal advice to find out if there’s an ongoing investigation that affects you and/or your company.
